Who Was Mauro Valli, the Man and the Founder
Mauro Valli was born in 1939 in Carpi, in an Italy marked by war and the long road to reconstruction. He grew up between the countryside and his first work responsibilities, carrying the deep mark of his mother’s early death — an event that made him aware, far too soon, of both the fragility and the strength of life. Daily work in the fields and the tasks assigned to boys his age became his first training ground in resilience. He often recalled: “You had to pull your weight, because every gesture mattered, and every effort helped carry the day forward.”
From that experience grew a passion for mechanics, fueled by a curiosity for every gear and every machine he came across. His life naturally moved toward a path made of apprenticeships, experiments, and successes built one piece at a time. From that determination — shaped in workshops and on work trips — Mollificio Valli was born.
Mauro was a man of tireless hands and an open mind, capable of building and holding together— with equal strength — both his company and his family, bringing into his entrepreneurial life the same sense of responsibility that guided him in his private one.
But the book is also a love story: the story of Mauro and Sandra. She entered his life early on and became the quiet, decisive presence behind his every step. With her ability to listen, her steady strength, and her tireless affection, she was the companion with whom Mauro shared dreams, challenges, and achievements — weaving family and enterprise into a single story.
The Genesis of the Book
Mauro worked on the manuscript between 2010 and 2014, driven by the desire to set down the memories and reflections he had carried within him all his life. From the very beginning, those pages were received as a gift — welcomed by his sons Enzo, Marco, and Christian, and by his wife Sandra, as a living trace of his voice and of his way of seeing the world.
For a long time, the manuscript remained in the family’s hands, cherished as something that continued to speak even after he was gone. They often remembered him through his own words: “There are stories worth telling, and ours is one I would tell to the whole world.”
In the years following the original writing, Natascia Sgarbossa helped guide the manuscript toward an initial narrative form. In 2025, the decision was made to give those words new life: Fulvio Julita undertook the critical editing and layout, while Alberto Carpinetti oversaw the editorial direction.
The work thus becomes the result of many hands and many moments in time — an intertwining of memory and family care. It is a process that preserves the authenticity of Mauro’s thought and offers it to the reader today as an inheritance that continues to breathe and generate meaning.
Why Family Story Matters Today
Family Story is a personal narrative that becomes a universal lesson. Its events intertwine with those of an entire community, restoring the voice of an era in transformation. Reading these pages means rediscovering the roots of the Emilian countryside, sensing the rhythm of the workshops, and following the journeys that took Mauro beyond the borders of his hometown. Every detail releases the energy of an Italy that was growing with determination, turning daily sacrifices into future possibilities.
Within the book, the principles that guided his every choice emerge clearly: work as dignity, family as foundation, and dedication as a way of life. The images he describes are vivid and concrete — feet sinking into the soil, eyes searching new horizons, voices intertwining around a shared table. Moments from a generation capable of turning hardship into an act of hope.
Mauro’s life story thus becomes an inspiration for those facing new challenges, for those seeking firm roots, and for those wishing to pass on an inheritance of values. Because, quoting Mauro himself: “You never stop learning — in fact, the moment you think you know everything, that’s exactly when you get fooled, to put it plainly.”
